Blog entry no.5 (Season finale): Something unusual which happened that day (2)

What do you do when you hear the hapless news of a cataclysm? You would undubitably skedaddle. But what if everyone darts in all directions haphazardly, leading to the calamitious catastrophe of a frantic stampede occurring? This is due to preparatory deficiencies such as a fire drill. Numerous accidents and disasters materialised due to the unsystematic way of evacuation. As the final blog post, I shall tell you about my blood-curdling experience that happened many years ago...

The architecture of Bluewater Shopping Centre in Denmark was certainly second to none. Everyday, a thousand and one avid shoppers will flock to Bluewater to grab the fabulous offers and discounts and the wide diversification of shops there. My family and I decided to visit Bluewater, one of the most famous tourist landmarks in Denmark. At every second there is bustling activity and jostling of anxious crowds to grab the discounts available. And whenever there is lots of big crowds, it would always be a potential attraction to a worldwide threat still going on till now: Terrorism.

However, there was so much activity that in a blink of an eye, we soon blended in the vivacious atmosphere. Suddenly, there was an announcement being made through the PA system, announcing that there was a bomb threat on Bluewater Shopping. In that split-second, the entire Bluewater became silent for the first time and everyone was rooted to the ground, breathing heavily. Then, all hell broke loose and pandemonium erupted in Bluewater. The person on the PA system was telling everyone to calm down, but it was no use. It seemed like another announcement was being made, but the sound was absolutely drowned out. The PA system had unmistakably sparked a vociferous hullabaloo. The fruit baskets were being flung in mid-air from all directions and the automatic entrance doors were jammed by the swarm of people fleeing for their lives. I stuck close to my family in order not to get lost. The sale of movie DVDs were clattered all over the floor as one preceded one to be stepped on and shattered.

Fire extinguishers and under furniture from the nearby furniture retail shop were used to hit the glass doors to allow for more space to escape. Soon the glass gave way, and everyone rushed out in relief. In the end, it was actually a teenager toying with the PA microphone and passing Bomb hoaxes. The teenager was arrested and brought to justice. There was much damage done but if fire drills were frequently carried out, then there was no need for such damage, of the fruit baskets, tables, chairs, sofas, table lamps, fire extinguishers, shattered entrance door, DVDs, boxes and flowerpots... This unusual incidents reminds us of the neeed for fire drills to be carried out.
